Moving from Phoenix to Maricopa
If you’re thinking about moving from the Phoenix area to Maricopa (The City of Maricopa… not Maricopa county) you have stumbled upon a question worth thinking about! Just to clarify, Maricopa is in Pinal County about 16 miles south of Chandler down one road SR 347. As you enter into Maricopa SR 347 changes it’s name to John Wayne Parkway which goes straight through Maricopa. The city was established in 1857 but was incorporated in 2003 when it really began to prosper with lots of homes being built and a great future ahead.
Lets take a look at 5 things to consider before you decide to buy your next home in ‘copa.
Homes for sale in Maricopa tend to be less expensive as those in the valley. Why? Because Maricopa is outside of the valley area. It’s not too far but just enough to keep those prices lower and attractive. Try searching for homes for sale in your price range in the Phoenix area, then do the same search in only Maricopa. I think you will be surprised at the difference. Plus, most of the homes in Maricopa were built at least in 2002 so they are still pretty new.
Maricopa is still developing
The development in Maricopa has been happening at a rapid speed. In the past few years we have built many retail establishments, Copper Sky Recreational Complex, The Ultrastar Multitainment Center (movies, laser tag, games, bowling, and restaurants), a new campus for Central Arizona College, and much more! Upcoming developments are making an overpass to bypass the Amtrak train, a Denny’s, and a public road that will travel behind the Sierra Estrella mountains right into Phoenix!
Many people who live in Maricopa do work in the Phoenix area. The commute to Chandler would only be 20 minutes and into Phoenix may take 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. On some days you can see the wild horses off of SR 347 on your way. If you work in a town such as Glendale which is north of Phoenix, it may be a tough commute. But that’s a matter of opinion, right?
Small Town Feel
Even though Maricopa is growing and has a population of close to 50,000 it still maintains a small town feel. It’s a quiet town, dark at night for stargazers, and offers great community events such as Founders Day, Merry Copa, and the Salsa Festival. It’s a very relaxing place to live.
Maricopa is pretty much totally self sufficient. It has a Frys, Bashas, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, doctors, urgent care, Wells Fargo, Chase, entertainment, golf, Ace Hardware… just to name a few.
